Hampton Arts League Open Members Exhibition 2012

Watercolor "Male Torso" original painting by Masako Simmons

Male Torso

My primarily work is surreal or abstract in acrylic, but I painted male torso this time in watercolor.  This is something new and I had painted a few more as a series.
This maybe my new direction for 2012.  Who knows…?
This painting “Male Torso” will be exhibited in the annual members exhibition for 2012.

Please come to the Opening Reception on Saturday, January 28, 3:00-5:30pm at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center.  Free admission with a little refreshment. 🙂

Small Figurative Paintings

I haven’t done much figurative paintings, but always had an interest in sensual nude paintings and photographs.  Nudity and sexuality are always controversial.  People’s perspectives are so different, depending on how they grow up and what they believe.  I think Europe is more open than the United States (Just IMO).   Japan was (I use “was” because I haven’t been back there for long time.) somewhat conservative, but boundaries were very clear.  We can show nipples but not sex organs.  You’ll see ladies upper nude on national TV in Japan.

I was surprised by the negative reactions when Janet Jackson had a costume malfunction.  It was just a nipple!  That’s why I hesitated a little to post my nude paintings.  I believe art has no limit to it.  But somewhere, somehow, someone has to draw the line.  I just don’t know where.    Hey, I just noticed photos of sex organs showing on Wikipedia!
